Loren R. Metzger

Loren R. Metzger, 95, of South Whitley IN and winter resident of Punta Gorda, FL passed away February 5, 2016 at Bayfront Health of Punta Gorda. He was born October 24, 1920 in Kosciusko County, Indiana to Howard and Iva Metzger. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1938 and obtained his Bachelor's degree from Manchester College, N. Manchester, IN in1942. Loren returned to Indiana from Civil Public Service in 19477 and married Olive Miller. Loren and his twin brother were dairy farmers and then Loren worked as a Whitley County Breeding Technician until 1985 when his sons continued farming under South View Farms, Inc. Loren was a lifelong member of Eel River Community Church of Brethren. He served 12 years on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors, 1 year past President of Indiana Guernsey Breeders Association and Board of Directors of Whitley County Senior Citizens. He traveled extensively during his retirement, touring Europe, Canada, US and attending Elderhostels. Loren enjoyed gardening, loved to read, sing, and his hobby was making latch hook rugs. Loren will be greatly missed by his wife, Ruth; sons, John (Beth) Metzger and Nelson (Lin) Metzger; daughter, Anita (Mel) Sautter; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Leo Metzger and sister, Martha Long. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Olive; brothers, Gale (Katherine), Maurice (Julia Ann), Thurl (Ruth) and Myran (Grace); sisters, Kathryn (Freed) Whisler and Thelma (Worth) Ganshorn; sister in law, Evelyn; brother in law, Wilbur and great grandson, Brevin. A memorial service will be held at 10am, June 11, 2016 at Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, 2507 E. State Rd. 14, Silver Lake, IN. Memorial donations may be made to Heifer International, One World Ave, Little Rock, AR 72202. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
