Leven Leon "Lee" Bowers, 83, of Punta Gorda, Florida, joined our Father in heaven after a brief illness, on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Bayfront Health. Lee was born on February 18, 1931 in Sharpsburg, Maryland to Nora Bowers Bradley and Kenneth Bowers and is one of five boys. Lee and Helen, his wife of 62 years, began their lives together in the state of Washington, where he was stationed and served as an Airman, First-Class in the United States Air Force. After completing his civil duty they moved back east and settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There, Lee obtained his Bachelor degree at Robert Morris College and his Master degree at the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating he was employed by Main and Company, a CPA firm. Later, Lee held the position of CFO for nearly 20 years at Columbia Hospital of Pittsburgh and later retired as Vice-President in charge of construction of medical facilities for Crossgates, Inc. After retirement, Lee and Helen moved to "God's Country" in Pennsylvania and most recently to Burnt Store Colony, Punta Gorda, Florida. Lee enjoyed every day and was truly a family man. He immensely enjoy fishing and gardening and was a skilled hunter until moving from Pennsylvania. Lee is well known for instituting the "Willie Nelson Hour" held daily from 5-6 and was enjoyed by family and many great friends. Lee's friendships were abounding. Lee always had time to lend a listening ear and offer his words of kindness to all. He is survived by his wife, Helen Benson Bowers; children, Steven, Laura, Amy, Debbie, Kara and Rachel; he was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Richard Bowers. Lee was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Sue, and three brothers A visitation will be held 4 to 6pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Larry Taylor Funeral Home with a funeral service at 11am to be held Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Burnt Store Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be made to the Wounded Warriors or the Wish for our Heroes foundations.
