Leighton A. White

Leighton A. White, 76, longtime resident of Port Charlotte, FL, died Friday, September 24, 2010 after a prolonged illness. He was the son of the late Leon A. White and Flora M White Johnson, born October 9, 1933 in Sandy Creek, NY. Leighton graduated from Arlington High School and then served the US Army. He was a retired Building Contractor from Dutchess County, NY. Leighton enjoyed boating, fishing and restoring old cars. He was known for building and racing the "Restless" corvettes at Dover Drag Strip, NY. Leighton will be greatly missed by his children, J. Christopher White of Port Charlotte, FL, Brian P. (Roberta) White of Port St Lucie, FL, Steven L. White of Port St Lucie, FL Jay E.(Mary) White of Wappingers Falls, NY, Leigh-anne M (Edward ) Kucskar of East Greenbush, NY, Rebecca J. White of Blauvelt, NY, Michelle A(Robert) Sidor of Ramsey, NJ; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, Leon E. White, Dorothy Sutton, Carley Upton and Nancy White and his former wife, Jean Gilmore Conover. A memorial was held on September 29, 2010 in Port St. Lucie, FL. Donations may be made in Leighton's name to the Military Heritage Museum 1200 W. Retta Esplanade, #48, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. To express condolences to the family, please sign the online guest book.
