Lawrence L. “Larry” Oakley, 84, of Port Charlotte passed away March 30, 2007. He was born November 9, 1922 in Hindsboro, IL to Lawrence and Emily (Bradford) Oakley. Larry served on a PBY Catalina seaplane in the US Navy Reserves during WWII in the South Pacific rescuing downed US pilots. He was a retired supply inspector for Tinker Air Force Base and moved from Edmond, OK after 40 years to Punta Gorda in 2002. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5960 and of the Methodist faith. Larry will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Darlene; son Lloyd R.(Mary) Oakley of Punta Gorda; daughter Susan (Pete) Miller of Jones, OK; grandchildren Sabrina Kelsey, Cassie Oakley, Natalie Oakley, Adam Oakley and Delaney Miller; great-grandchildren Blake and Taylor Kelsey. The family will receive friends at 1:00 - 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2007 with a celebration of Larry’s life to follow at 2:00 pm at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army Building Fund, 2735 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda, FL 33952. To express condolences to the family, please sign the online guest book.
