Latifa Mailauni Salazar was born May 6, 1970 in Detroit, Michigan. Latifa attended the Detroit Waldorf School and graduated from Mercy High School. A lover of education and travel, Latifa spent many summers studying abroad in France, Spain, Mexico, England, and Amsterdam. She earned her Bachelor�s Degree in Spanish from the University of Michigan; attended Lawrence Institute of Technology; earned her MBA from the Keller School of Business of Northwestern University; and earned her Education Degree from Edison College. Latifa enjoyed being an educator, and was most recently a teacher at L. A. Ainger Middle School. Latifa pursued many interests. She was the first girl of color to win the Tri-State (Ontario/Michigan/Ohio) Ice Skating Championship in 1982. She enjoyed performing and instructing Latin Dance. In college, she did some modeling. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte. Latifa will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother, who�s greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her smile could light up a room. Latifa passed away May 6, 2011 at the age of 41. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 9 years, Edwin; daughter, Andrea Jolie Salazar; son, Gianni Azriel Salazar; parents, Melvan and Wahealah Adderton; grandmother, Odessa Dardy; aunt, Jothany Diane Dardy; grand-aunts, Jean Bandy, Verna Smith and Ozell Allen; grand-uncle, Philip Madden; great-aunt Emma Peters; parents-in-law, Joshua and Sara Salazar; brother-in-law, Edward (Marcy) Salazar; three nephews and many friends. The family will receive friends 6:00-7:00 pm Thursday, May 12, 2011 at First Baptist Church Port Charlotte with the service celebrating Latifa�s life beginning at 7:00 pm.
