Larry P. Urban

Lawrence P. “Larry” Urban, 73, of Punta Gorda passed away June 29, 2006. He was born March 8, 1933 in Milford, CT, the son of Fred and Dorothy (Arnold) Urban. Larry was always involved in the communities where he lived. He was a graduate of Milford High School in 1950. Larry was a dedicated member of the Connecticut Yankees and Connecticut Hurricanes Drum & Bugle Corps in the 1960's. He retired from Avco-Lycoming in Stratford, CT in 1990 after 22 years of service. Larry was a member of Ansantawae Lodge #89 AF&AM in Milford for 45 years and served as Worshipful Master in 1971; he was also a High Priest for Milford Chapter #49 and Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Conn in 1984. He served as Thrice Illustrious Master of Adam Sattig Council #35 and Most Puissant Grand Master of the Grand Council of Conn in 1977. He was coronated 33rd Degree Honorary Inspector General, the highest honor in the Masonic Order, in 1984. After moving to Punta Gorda in 1990, Larry continued his community involvement as a member of First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, and was a team member in the Over 50 Softball League for many years. Larry also enjoyed singing in the church choir as well as the Charlotte Chorale and the Suncoast Chorale, and with the Charlotte Players. Larry will be greatly missed by his wife of 49 years, Yvonne; daughters, Glenna (Jonathan) Kane of Kalamazoo, MI and Nancy (Paul) Szafranski of Port Charlotte; grandsons, Bryan P. Urban, Dylan T. Kane, and Brandon T. Kane, all of Kalamazoo, MI; step-grandchildren, Jacob and Jillian Szafranski, both of Port Charlotte; and brother-in-law, Maurice D. Knox, Jr of Milford, CT. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Sunday, July 2 at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. The service in celebration of Larry’s life will be 11 am Monday at the Punta Gorda Chapel with Rev. David Blood officiating. The family requests memorial donations be made by visiting the American Cancer Society at www.acsevents.org/relay/mi/kalamazoo and sponsoring Glenna Kane, or by mail to 5110 S.
