Kenneth "Gene" E. Mc Clain

Kenneth "Gene" E. McClain, 78, of Port Charlotte, FL died after a long struggle with cancer on Saturday, June 7, 2014 in. He was born on August 21, 1935 in Peoria, IL to Kenneth and Emma Francis McClain. On the day of his passing, Gene celebrated 61 years of marriage with his wife Beatrice Richards McClain, whom he wed in 1953. Gene worked for Baker Boiler & Welding and Don-Lee Heating & Cooling. He served as past President and Chief Examiner of the Indiana Association of Power Engineers and was active in the Mason organization as a former member of the Scottish Rite Cathedral and Murat Shrine, Past Master of the Millersville Masonic Lodge #126 and Past Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star #300. After retiring to Florida, he became 1st Lieutenant in the United States Power Squadrons Sail and Power Boating and was recognized for his work in Cooperative Charting of Charlotte County. Gene's greatest loves were his family and spending time on the water. He enjoyed summers spent with his family and friends at Raccoon Lake and the Charlotte County Waters. He always enjoyed his cars. Gene also was an avid card player, teaching family and friends any game he loved. Gene is survived by his wife, Bea; children, Kevin (Susan) McClain and Kim (John) Gregal; grandchildren, Marlana McClain and Matthew (Chutima) McClain; 4 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 11 - 1pm, Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Larry Taylor Funeral Home.
