Kathleen Ris

Kathleen Ris, 84, of Punta Gorda passed away May 1, 2013. She was the daughter of, Joseph and Catherine (Kerrigan) Kelly, born May 17, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY. Kathleen was an administrative secretary for several schools on Long Island for 26 years. She began to spend winters in Punta Gorda in 1997, before becoming a permanent resident recently. Kathleen was a member of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church, and served as president of the Lady Hibernians. She enjoyed playing games, especially Mahjong. An avid reader and lover of education, she encouraged everyone she met to pursue education. She will be remembered as the matriarch of the family, and she enjoyed spending summers at the beach house on Long Island with her family. Kathleen will be greatly missed by her husband of 65 years, Edward; son, Wayne E (Heather) Ris; grandsons, Thomas E. and Philip J. (Deanna) Ris; brothers, Donald (Helen) Kelly, and John (Mary) Kelly; nephew, Joseph Martin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Suzanne Marie, sister, Eileen Martin, and brother, Joseph Kelly. No services are planned. Inurnment will be at a later date at St. Lawrence Church in Sayville, NY. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
