Joseph James Castronova

May 30, 1933 — September 12, 2006

Joseph “Joe Cass” Castronova, 73, of Port Charlotte passed away September 12, 2006. He was born May 30, 1933 in East Boston, MA, the son of Anthony and Lena (Iacbone) Castronova. Joe served in the US Navy during the Korean War. After his Naval service, he tended bar at Dean Martin’s Lounge in Las Vegas. A car salesman for many years, he moved to Port Charlotte from Philadelphia and sold automobiles for Charlotte County Lincoln Mercury since the day the dealership opened. Joe embraced life and lived each day to it’s fullest. He was a member of St Charles Borromeo Church and the Knights of Columbus; he coached with Port Charlotte Little League and the Pop Warner Bandits. He later developed a love for horses and started Bits & Saddles riding center for children. He will be remembered as a person who had a smile for everyone. Joe will be greatly missed by his wife, Kathy; daughters, Allison (Bayar), Marissa and Devon; sons, David Cleary and Joseph Jr; sister, Marie Scimemi; brother-in-law, Anthony Scimemi; step-daughter, Stephanie Whitehead and her son, Austin, and grandchildren, Gabrielle and Nicholas Ursomanno and Jason and Spencer Cleary. He was preceded in death by his parents Lena and Anthony. A celebration of Joe’s life will be 2:00 p.m, Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
