Recently retired in Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of Rockville, Maryland, John D. Goings lost a courageous battle against cancer on Friday, December 28, 2018. John was predeceased by his parents, Colonel Charles E. Goings, Jr USAF (retired) and Margaret Fineran Goings. He was born September 25, 1947 in Tacoma, Washington, the second of five children. He is survived by his brother, Charles E. Goings,III (Marjorie S. Goings) of Myrtle Beach, SC; and his three sisters, Elizabeth A. Goings (Michael F. O'Malley) of Potomac, MD; Christine L. Hall (Robert S. Hall) of Chevy Chase, MD; and Mary Kathleen Goings of Punta Gorda, FL, and one nephew, Edward (Ted) G. Goings of Richmond, VA. For 20 years John worked as a histology technician in a Rockville medical lab. He then changed career paths to travel across the country as a roadie for Willie Nelson, and later joined the prop crew for The Capitol Steps. John continued working back stage as a dresser at the Shakespeare Theatre at the Landsburgh, the National Theater, and the Kennedy Center until his retirement in January of 2016. John wanted his family to celebrate his life instead of planning a funeral service. A reception of remembrance will be held in Maryland in John's honor in the spring of 2019. Internment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be private. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Tidewell Hospice of Charlotte, Florida at www.tidewell.org
