John Dewayne Briles was the oldest of four children, born December 12, 1953 in Bluffton, Indiana, the son of Glen J. and Phyllis Jean (Ramseyer) Briles. He lived in Huntington, Indiana before moving to Port Charlotte, Florida. John loved being active and spent many happy hours hunting and fishing. John had great skill in carpentry and woodworking and took great joy in building things; the family will cherish several furniture pieces and other projects he made. John's faith in the Lord gave him peace throughout his battle with Leukemia. He never complained, and was a continual source of hope and encouragement to everyone around him. John passed away March 6, 2009 at the age of 55, and is now resting after his long battle. John will be greatly missed by his wife of 10 years, Sheila Brooks Kern Briles; sons, Nathan Briles, Paul Kern, and Matt Kern, all of Huntington; daughters, Kristy Briles of Huntington and Mrs. Mandy Kern Brooks of Nashville, TN; brother, Dan Briles; sister, Mrs. Joann E. Briles Rockow of Port Charlotte; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 10:00 - 11:00 am Monday, March 9, 2009 at Murdock Christian Church with the memorial service in celebration of John's life following at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made to Murdock Christian Church 17500 Elmwood Avenue, Port Charlotte, FL 33948. Because he so loved fishing and the Gulf of Mexico, this is where his final resting place will be.
