John B. Bivens, Jr.

John Bivens, 85, of Punta Gorda passed away October 22, 2020. He was born March 28, 1935, in Kegley, West Virginia to John and Rachael (Crawford) Bivens. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Concord College in Athens, West Virginia, and a Master’s from the University of Georgia. He taught high school mathematics in Miami, Florida for over 30 years, most of those years were spent at Miami Palmetto Senior High School. John also taught Sunday School for many years at First Baptist Church of Perrine in Miami, Florida, and at First Baptist Punta Gorda. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting with his son, and spending time with his family. 

John will be greatly missed by his family: son John F. Bivens, DVM of Punta Gorda, daughter Laura (Frank) Mas of Miami, grandchildren Jared Bivens of Punta Gorda, Mason and Connor Gebhart of Miami, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Sue Bivens, and a beloved granddaughter Julia Nicole Bivens.
