Joan West

Joan West, 75, of Punta Gorda passed away at her home on February 28, 2007, surrounded by the love of her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was born on July 31, 1931 in Peekskill, NY. A graduate of the University of Buffalo with a degree in Physical Education, she worked as a physical education teacher and a sewing teacher in Buffalo, NY, then moved to Florida in 1984. Her life’s passions included her family, friends, and church. She was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Punta Gorda where she was very active in the choir and the Episcopal Church Women’s Group. Joan will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 50 years, Arthur West of Punta Gorda; daugther Debbie (Greg) Postle of Punta Gorda; son, Bradley (Leslie) West of Deep Creek; sister, Edwina (Richard) Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law Lynda (Corky) West of Deep Creek; five grandchildren whom she adored, Brett Bailey, Daniel West, Michael Thorpe, Amanda West, and Shelley Postle; and nephews, Robert Thompson, David Thompson, and Jeffrey Thompson. She will also be greatly missed by her constant companions, Maggie, Pooky, Smokey, Cody, and Sunny. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 5, 2007 at the Chruch of the Good Shepherd , 401 West Henry Street, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
