Jimmie Lois Rogers Davis, age 65, passed away May 28th, 2015 at her home in Punta Gorda Florida. Her husband and granddaughter were by her side. She was a wonderful woman and friend to all. She was the second daughter of James Oscar Rogers and Bonnie B Berry, born March 20 1950 in Jackson Mississippi. Jimmie graduated from Forest Hill High School, Jackson Mississippi in 1968 and then attended Hinds Jr. College in Raymond, Mississippi. Jimmie is survived by her loving husband, Barry Davis, son Travis Trimble, granddaughters, Candace Davis and Jasmin Watrous and great-granddaughter, Coral Collands. Music and singing were a great joy for Jimmie. In her early years Jimmie sang in church and school choirs, often with her sister Lynn who also passed away from cancer. At 18 she married her high school sweetheart and moved to Spain where she gave birth to her son Travis. Jimmie was always great with people and had a career in both banking and Human Resources. After returning from Spain she worked for the State of Mississippi, her home state and later with, at the time a new company, Pizza Hut in Wichita Kansas. While living and working in Wichita, Jimmie made many lifelong friends who, 30 years later, still talk about the parties she put-on. Jimmie loved to play cards, mostly bridge, and after 5 years of playing with and against her co-worker, Barry, they were married on November 25th 1989. In 1990 they moved to Houston Texas to follow Barry's career. Jimmie easily continued her career until 1993 when she chose to retire from corporate world and focus on raising her granddaughter Candace. Jimmie was a strong Southern woman who put family and friends above everything but God. In 2004 Jimmie and her family moved to Punta Gorda Florida to please her husband, as sailing was important to him and found she loved this paradise. Jimmie treasured her Diet Coke and Thursday evening music at Gilchrest Park. Many a time Jimmie would use her great wit to put things into perspective. Spousal disagreements often ended when she would use the phrase 'he is only a man' which lead to a 26 year blissful loving marriage. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11am, Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremations with a celebration of Jimmie's life to follow at 11am. Pastor Art Grayman will be officiating. Burial will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, Punta Gorda. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, https://donate.cancer.org/index
