Jay Edwin Baum, 84, of Punta Gorda passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2013. He was the only child of Louis A. and Elizabeth (Closius) Baum, born February 6, 1929 in Queens, New York. Jay served in the US Navy on the USS Fargo CL 106. In 1964 he married Maria Teresa Carcana and they lived in Freeport, NY, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and Punta Gorda, where he wanted to spend his final days closer to his daughter, Debra. Jay worked as a machinist and was an avid photographer for family and friends. He was a proud member of Disabled American Veterans. Jay worked with his hands and loved wood working and made various items for many people though out his life. He will be remembered as a loving and thoughtful soul that touched family and friends. Jay will be missed by his loving daughter, Debra Baum (John E. ) Giamanco of Punta Gorda, FL; grandsons, John and Matthew; step-daughters, Nora Ortiz, Delia Tucker and Lydia Villifane;step-grandchildren, George, Jessica, Edward, Jayson, Jeff, Teresa and Dan; brother by choice not by blood, Frank Starr of Garden City, NY.
