Janet M. Baxter

October 6, 1943 — September 21, 2016

Janet M. Baxter, 72, of North Port, FL went home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2016. She was a farmer's daughter, born October 6, 1943 in Cass City, MI to wonderful parents Elizabeth and Andrew Szidik, Jr. Jan was the first in her family to graduate from Michigan State University and was happy when they won the Big Ten Football Championship in 2015. By the grace of God, she met and married Bruce, the love of her life; and they raised three amazing children. Jan loved to play games, especially bridge, golf and mahjong. While in Florida, she volunteered with the Red Cross for ten years, managing the shelters in Charlotte County and training people to work in disasters. Jan also did counseling at Pregnancy Solutions and enjoyed helping girls through their pregnancy. She was a member of First Baptist Church Port Charlotte, where she became closer to God and made many friends in Christ. Bruce and Jan traveled a lot of the world and experienced much of God's creation. For three months, she helped at an orphanage, run by the Mother Theresa Organization, The Missionary Sisters of Charity, in Indore, India. It was one of the most spiritual experiences of her life. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Bruce; children, Cheryl (Jim) Bonebright, David (Suzy) and Robert (Annie); especially enjoyed being with her perfect grandchildren, Jacob, Scott, Alyssa, Jared, Eli, Bella, Josh and Tom; brothers, Jim (Judy) Szidik and sister in law, Cheree Szidik. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ed Szidik. A service to celebrate Janet's life will be held at 11am, Saturday, October 1, 2016 at First Baptist Port Charlotte. Memorial donations may be made to ALS Assn of FL, Pregnancy Solutions of North Port, FL, the Southwest Chapter of the American Red Cross or First Baptist of Port Charlotte. Arrangements are by Larry Taylor Funeral.
