James Robert Matthew, 77, of Port Charlotte passed away October 1, 2013. He was the son of Elmer and Ella Matthew, born March 25, 1936 in Chatham, Ontario. Jim served in the US Air Force. He was an accountant and an auditor for the IRS before opening Matthew Tax, Inc. He came to Port Charlotte in 1983 and was active with the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce; he was proud to be a member of the first Leadership Charlotte class. Jim enjoyed bowling, spending time with family, and cheering on his beloved Red Wings, Wayne State University, and other Michigan sports teams. He had been a resident of Douglas T. Jacobson State Veteran's Home since 2009. Jim will be greatly missed by his daughters, Michelle (Chris) Taylor, and Meridith (Bryan)Williams; grandchildren, Amber, Collin, and Jacob Taylor; and brother, Don Matthew. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John and Ken Matthew. The service in celebration of Jim's life will be at 5:00 pm Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at the Wyvern Hotel.
