James R. Marquess

James Randall Marquess, otherwise known as “Jimmy" to his family and “Hoss" to his friends, died November 16, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Mona Arington Marquess of 40 years; two brothers Eugene, wife Donna Marques and Steve, wife Brenda Marquess; one sister Barbara Kristofik; and twenty-one loving nieces and nephews. With his marriage to Mona, he has 4 stepchildren he considered and loved as his own: Jamie, wife Jamie Diane Riffle, Rashel, husband Brian Mathews, twins Joseph Riffle, and Jeremy, wife Angela Riffle. Our four children have married and given us eleven beautiful grandchildren. To our wonder, the love continues, giving us seven vibrant great-grandchildren. Filling our house with blessings and more love than our hearts can contain. Preceded in death by father Charles (Kelly) Marquess, mother Kathleen Rummel Marquess, and sister Shirley Heater. 

Hoss had a lifetime circle of friends like none other. With that, you know there is a reason. He had a huge heart, a loveable grin, and blue eyes that shined like stars. 

He worked as an LPN for three years. He moved to Indianapolis with his family in 1985. He worked at the Indiana Convention Center for twenty-five years. Hoss was an avid lover of all sports. If a ball was involved, he was interested. Growing up in WV, made him a loyal WVU fan. Always, from a child to an adult, he was involved with sports and little league. His philosophy of sports was that it kept kids grounded and strong in the ethics of life. 

A memorial for Hoss will be for family in June at the Outer Banks. 

For all who loved Hoss and wish to honor him, a memorial service will be held at Lambert's Winery on June 29th at 1:00pm.
