James M. Keir, 87 of Punta Gorda, FL died May 27, 2012 in hospice care, attended by his wife, Shirley, nephew, Keir Todd and Keir's wife Regina. Jim was born 22 November, 1924 in Cleveland OH, the son of Stephen & Nessie (Bennet) Keir. He served honourably in the US Navy during both WWII and the Korean War aboard the Submarines USS Requin, Hoe & Sea Poacher. Jim earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and worked for Chrysler Corporation International Engineering Division, acting as the liaison between Chrysler's Latin American plants. Jim married Shirley Isola in 1953 and moved to Florida in 1990. He was a Life member of Jefferson Lodge # 553, F&AM, St. Claire Shores, Michigan. His hobbies included his 31 foot ketch rigged sailboat, golfing, banjo and guitar. Jim will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley; sister-in-law's .Alice Helwig & Maxine Schillinger; nephew's, I. Keir Todd &Thom Schillinger; niece, Laurel Helwig and numerous other loved ones. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret D.M. Keir Todd. Gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday May 30, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. at Larry Taylor Funeral & Cremation Services.
