James "Jimmy" Ibberson

June 24, 1924 — February 23, 2018

James Watkeys "Jimmy" Ibberson, 93, of Port Charlotte passed away Friday, Feb 23, 2018. He was the youngest child of George and Sarah Ibberson, born June 20, 1924 in Lykens, PA. Jimmy served in the US Army Signal Corps in France during WWII. This is where he met Madeleine, the love of his life whom he jokingly called his "prize" from the war, the souvenir he took home from France. Jimmy worked as an engineer for IBM in the infancy of the computer age; he retired after 35 years of service. Jimmy and Madeleine traveled extensively for 38 years; he was an avid cyclist and loved swimming. Jimmy will be greatly missed by his wife, Madeleine; and cousins, William James and Mary Hill. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, March 2 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, with the service in celebration of Jimmy's life beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sarasota Opera (sarasotaopera.org).
