James (Jim) H. Evans, 90, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011 at Quality Health Care Center in North Port. Jim was born in Windsor, Canada on September 24, 1921. He spent his youth and early adult years in Michigan. In 1951, he moved his family to southern California where he remained until July, 2010 when he moved to Punta Gorda. Jim was a teacher and school administrator for 30 years in Long Beach, CA. Following his retirement, he and his beloved wife, Hazel, became commercial avocado growers in North San Diego County for 25 years, a life truly suited to the both of them. A proud WWII veteran, a devoted servant of the Lord, an ardent animal lover and an avid Padres baseball fan, Jim had a rich and rewarding life. He and Hazel were able to travel the world, build their dream home in Valley Center, CA, and devote many years serving and ministering to others. Left to mourn Jim's passing are his grateful children, James R. Evans (Peggie) of Temecula, CA, Kenneth Evans (Pam) of La Center, WA, and daughter Judy (Bob) Swanson of Punta Gorda; beloved grandchildren Jason, Lisa, Tami and Keri; great-grandchildren Ashley, Rebecca, Rachel and Issac; devoted sister Mary Sutton, seven nieces and a multitude of life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hazel, sister Dorothy Evans and granddaughter Brenna Michelle. A private memorial service will be planned for a later date. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Quality Health Care Center in North Port and Tidewell Hospice for their care and compassion in making Dad's final journey such a peaceful passing.
