James Brown

James Jackson Brown, 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 6, 2018. James was a life - long resident of Punta Gorda, born April 24, 1928, near what is now the entrance of Punta Gorda Isles. He loved to talk about the area back in his youth and days spent hunting and fishing. He served in the Navy during World War II as a member of the Seabees and was stationed in the Philippines during the Philippine Liberation. James was a machinist and for many years was co-owner of Browns Machine Shop. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed many years hunting on Babcock Ranch and in the Rocky Mountains with family and friends. He was also an accomplished pilot and enjoyed flying and taking trips in his Beechcraft Baron. James loved his Lord and was a long-time member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Punta Gorda. James was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marijo Kennedy Brown, son Irvin Brown, parents John J. and Edna S. Brown, and sister Alice Novak. He is survived by his grandson, Marcus Brown of Springfield, TN, niece Sue La Plante of Port Charlotte and nephew Michael Barley of Punta Gorda. Services will be held Friday, March 9th at 1:00 PM at Larry Taylor Funeral Home in Punta Gorda with interment at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
