James A. Manning

James A. Manning, 79, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away on July 7, 2020. He was born on July 9, 1940, to Joseph and Virginia Manning in Florence, AL. 

James honorably served in the United States Navy, active duty and reserves, as a submariner specializing as a Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator and Engineering Lab Technician.  A true mustang, he worked his way up through the ranks retiring as a Lieutenant after 24 years.  James was a Lifetime member of MOAA, the Military Officers Association of America.

James worked as a civilian in hospitals located in Indiana and Illinois.  He began the Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, IL as the Director of Engineering and continued his career at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL retiring an Administrator of Support Service.  James also loved working with children and was an extremely active member of the Rockford (IL) Boys Club.

James was a man of many talents.  In college, he was a member of the diving, trampoline, and tumbling teams.  He earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed the peacefulness of flying.  He appreciated the calmness of fly fishing in the Colorado waters and boating the ones of the coast of Florida.  Mostly, he was a wonderful family man, who loved his family deeply and would do anything for them.

James will be forever missed by his wife of 55 years, Patricia; sons Kevin D. Manning of Lafayette, IN and Christopher S. (Sarah) Manning of Eaton, CO; sister Linda Fort of Florence, AL; granddaughters Addyson K. Manning, who melted his heart, and Emilie N. Julch of Denver, CO; and niece Rose Fort in Georgia and nephew Manuel Fort in NC.
