J. Ronald Young

Jerry Ronald Young, 74, of Punta Gorda passed away July 20, 2006. He was born May 6, 1932 in Charlotte, NC the youngest son of Truman Gillian and Mary Sue (Whiteside) Young. Ron worked for Duke Energy for 37 years as a line clearance supervisor before retiring. He was the recipient of the Robinson Award for creative and innovative electrical designs presented by Duke Energy. Ron was a pilot for the Charlotte Civil Air Patrol for search and rescue missions. After retiring Ron invented the “Safety Yoke” to de-energize lethal down power lines, which is credited to saving several lives. Ron will be missed by his daughters Cindy (Ron)Young-Young of Cornelius, NC; Lisa (John) Young-Mackey of Sherrills Ford, NC; son Timothy L. Young of Charlotte, NC.; brother Charles (June) Young of Stanley, NC; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Ronald Young; brothers T.G. Young, Jr and Robert Young; sister Lois Y. Short. A service in celebration of Ron’s life will be held in North Carolina.
