Helen Marie Zalac, 89, of Punta Gorda, passed away November 25, 2009. She was the daughter of Thomas Finn and Marie Little, born August 30, 1920 in Chicago, IL. Helen was a homemaker, mother, volunteer and foster parent. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish, Griffith, IN, where she served as Past Rosary Society President, Eucharistic Minister, Assistant Wedding Sacristan, Lector for Mass, on the Pastoral Council, and as a mentor. Through Catholic Charities, she was a foster mother for over 40 children in Hammond, IN. Helen participated in the "March for Life" in Washington, DC. She was also a member of St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Center, Hammond, IN, as a Pastoral Care Volunteer. Helen came to Punta Gorda in 2008 from Highland, IN. Helen will be greatly missed by her daughter, Margaret M. (Philip) Krivickas of Crown Point, IN; son, Thomas W. (Pamela) Zalac of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren, Kerith Funderburg of Coralville, IA, Megan Pollard of Dryden, ON, Philip Krivickas of Wheatfield, IN, Jason Zalac and Mark Zalac both of Bozeman, MT, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Michael M. Zalac. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 19, 2009 at St. Mary's Church, 525 N. Broad St, Griffith, IN.
