Helen J. Shaddock

June 27, 1930 — September 22, 2011

Helen Jeanette Shaddock was the daughter of Eldridge W. and Willie Mae (Holt) Jackson, born June 27, 1930 in Newnan, GA. Helen accepted the Lord as a young girl and was diligent in living a life pleasing to Him. Helen and Frank were married on November 7, 1950; she was a true companion serving along side him in the many ministries in which they were involved. She enjoyed sewing, crochet, and most other kinds of handwork all of her life. One of her greatest joys was crocheting afghans as gifts for those she loved. Two of her personal ministries were making crochet Cross necklaces for inmates of a women's detention center, and crocheting little afghans and caps for tiny babies. Helen was a devoted mother, and arranged her work schedule around school times, holidays, and summer vacation. She came to Port Charlotte, FL in 1977 from Atlanta. She worked for several retail stores in the area, then began working as an appointment clerk for the Driver's License office. Serious illness during her teenage years prevented her from earning a high school diploma; one of her proudest moments was earning her GED as an adult. Helen will be remembered for her warm smile, generous heart, and quiet inner strength which grew with her faith in the Lord. Even though she suffered many illnesses in her lifetime, she always kept a positive view of life and embraced each day with joy. Helen passed away September 22, 2011. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 61 years, Frank; daughter, Marian (Larry) Taylor; grandchildren, Candy Frey, Robert (Becky) Taylor, Rachel (Tyler) Elgersma, and Jay Taylor; great-grandchildren, Kirstyn, Aubrianna, Ethan, Lizzy, and Landon; sister, Geraldine Nichols; brothers, George and William Jackson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Mary Jackson, and brother, Roy. Memorial donations may be made to Peace River Baptist Church, 478 Berry St, Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
