Hans Haefner

Hans J. Haefner, 92, of Punta Gorda passed away peacefully on March 11, 2015 at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte. He was born March 29, 1922 in Birket, Germany to Johann and Katharina Haefner, the middle child of seven siblings. Hans was drafted into the German Air Force at 18, where he served as a decoder and was captured in Africa and spent the rest of his service time as a prisoner of war in Kentucky and England. He returned to America in 1955 with his wife and worked for American Express until he joined Union Air Transport as Executive President until he retired. Hans was an avid golfer and a charter member of Twin Isles Country Club. He will be will be greatly missed by his wife, Gunvor; daughter, Anita; son, Ralph (Sue); step-children, Linda, Alan, Gregory, Dennis and Mark; grandchildren, Eric and Katie and several nieces and nephews in Germany. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita and 6 siblings. A memorial service to celebrate Hans' life will be held at 11am, Friday, March 20, 2015 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc.
