Gerald C. “Jerry” Werner, 70, of Punta Gorda passed away June 20, 2006. He was the son of Edward and Edna (Schuck) Werner, born March 5, 1936 in Southgate, IN. Jerry served in the US Army. While playing on the Army Baseball Team, he got the opportunity to pitch to Mickey Mantle. Jerry was a field service rep for IBM for 33 years before retiring; he came to the Punta Gorda area in 1992 from Cincinnati, OH. He was a member of the Deep Creek Elks and American Legion Post 888 in Ohio. Jerry enjoyed an active retirement and was an avid softball player and enjoyed playing tennis. Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife of 25 years, Carmela; daughter, Cara Louise Shaw of Middletown, OH; sons, David S. Werner of Cincinnati, OH, Charles E. Werner of Middletown, OH, and Wayne A. Werner of Lebanon, OH; brothers, Robert Werner of Harrison, OH, Ralph Werner of Lawrenceburg, IN, and Thomas Werner of Port Charlotte; sisters, Dorothy Gillman of Cincinnati, OH, Betty Oligee of Port Charlotte, Alean Saunders of Port Charlotte, Joan Fassler of San Antonio, TX, Roslyn Lohman of Harrison, OH, and Mary Grace Bischoff of St Leon, IN; sister-in-law, Elena Stothfang of Punta Gorda; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The service in celebration of Jerry’s life will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 24, 2006 at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services.
