Gerald Allen Sawyer, 70, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Friday, August 20, 2021. He was born June 2, 1951, to Willie and Alice Sawyer in Rocky Mount, NC. Gerald moved to Punta Gorda in April of 1994 from Westland, MI. Gerald honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1973 as a US Navy Radio Operator. He was a member of the Englewood Moose Lodge 1933, Oath Keepers, NRA of America, and SECOM Oath of Militia Service.
Gerald was a talented singer and musician. He was an avid motorcyclist, active in charity work such as Backpack Angels, and donated his entertainment services for charity events. He was also an NRA Firearm instructor and Field Firearm Ranger.
Gerald will be deeply missed by his mother Alice M. Sawyer; sisters, Jeanne M. Roland and Janet F. Steffes and brother-in-laws Richard Roland and John Steffes; nephews, Jeremy Sawyer and Joseph Sawyer; and nieces, Brittany Wight and Jaquelyne Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his father Willie B. Sawyer and younger brother Jeffrey B. Sawyer.
