George E. Rumpza

George E. Rumpza, 83, of Punta Gorda passed away July 12, 2011. He was the son of Jacob and Valeria (nee Zakrzewski) Rumpza, born September 8, 1927 on a farm in Grenville, SD. George was a veteran of the US Army. He lived in Worth, IL while working for 3M Company for many years; after leaving 3M, he was the grounds supervisor for the Worth Park District for 5 years. George moved to Mercer, WI after retiring and came to Punta Gorda from there in 2001. He was a member of the American Legion in Punta Gorda, and served as an usher at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. George enjoyed dancing, fishing, playing cards, snowmobiling, and horseshoes. He was well known for his grilling skills and planning Easter egg hunts. He dearly loved helping to raise his grandkids. George will be greatly missed by his wife, Barbara; step-children, Billie (Harold) Miller, Irene Loschetter, Robert Stevens, David Stevens, Dana (Scott) Miller and Dawn (Peter) Pruetting; 11 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; brother, William (Marita nee Bechtold); sisters, Adeline (Gene) Tracy, Marcella (Orvis) Jorgenson, and Lucy (James) Dols; brothers-in-law, Anton Mondry, Henry Pischke, and Gene Robinson; sisters-in-law, Alvina (nee Herrick) Rumpza, Marie (nee Fleischaker) Rumpza, Alice (nee Kwasniewski) Rumpza, and Gloria (nee Wren) Rumpza; and 75 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Benedict, Jacob, Anselem and Roy; sisters, Irene Mondry, Esther Pischke, and Sally Robinson; step-grandson, Dean Miller; and first wife of 47 years, Hazel (nee Hess) Rumpza.. The family will receive friends 4:00-6:00 pm Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. The service in celebration of George's life will be at 10:00 am Monday, July 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
