George E. Guttschalk

George Edward Guttschalk, 81, of Punta Gorda, FL., passed away Feb. 5, 2013, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte after a long battle with prostate cancer. George was the son of George and Florence Guttschalk, born December 20, 1931 in Willoughby Ohio. George graduated from Willoughby Union High School (class of '49) and Bowling Green State University (class of '56) where he received his degree in Industrial Management and Marketing. While at Bowling Green, George was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi and also served in the Army Corp of Engineers, stationed in Germany. George had a vast professional career which traversed him and his family to live and work in seven states. He held many management and executive management positions with several companies including Eaton Corporation, Clark Equipment Company, Wylain Corporation (Friedrich Group) and was most recently an Executive Vice President of Operations at Redman Homes. George retired in 1996 and moved with wife Judy to Punta Gorda where he enjoyed boating and spending time with friends. He was also involved in community organizations including Burnt Store Isles Association, Burnt Store Isles Boat Club, TEAM Punta Gorda, and the Punta Gorda Boaters Alliance where he was instrumental in the Punta Gorda waterfront development project. Other notable achievements include co-author of "Effective Management ~ A Humanistic Perspective", president of the Glasgow, KY Chamber of Commerce, and a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his daughters, Sherry (Tony) Williams of Lucas, KY, Joy (David) Filchock of Mentor, OH, Lori (Russell) Power of Clayton, NC and Terri (Chris) Wendel of Cape Coral, FL; his grandchildren, Andrew & Haley Boeckelmann, Katelynn & Marissa Filchock, Lauren & Kristin Power, Christopher & Dakota Wendel. A family service and burial at sea will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in George's name to Tidewell Hospice Inc, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 or Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, 22395 Edgewater Drive, Port Charlotte, FL 33980.
