Gary J. “Sonny” Suber, 59, of Port Charlotte passed away June 10, 2007. He was born October 2, 1947 in Queens, New York. Sonny played semi-pro football for St. Albans Chargers and the Long Island Chief. He worked as a correctional officer for the New York City Department of Corrections Brooklyn House of Detention before retiring in 1987. He was an active in ministry and was a pastor to several small churches including Koinonia Christian Center. Sonny was an avid sports fan and active in many community programs including the Port Charlotte Homeless Coalition, HIV/AIDS Pastoral Care Committee, Ministerial Alliance. He will be greatly missed by his wife Sheila; son Gary (Kerline) Suber; daughters, Ramona (Rodney) Robinson, Juanita (Howard) Seraphin and Javvone Suber; father Alebis Roy Sylver; grandchildren Keon (Kenia) and Kaden Suber, Marcus and Monica Delisca and Maya Seraphin; sisters; Tonja Greenwood and Roxanne Williams; brothers Anthony (Evelyn) Suber, Keith Suber, Roy Sylver, Patrick (Jennifer) Sylver, Rolf (Enid) Sylver, Calvin Sylver, Hakeem (Shellyann) Sylver and Peter (Shannon) Sylver. Sonny was preceded in death by his mother Dolores M. Sylver and brother Jeffrey Suber. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. A service will be at 11:00 a.m, Friday, June 15, 2007 at First Christian Church in Port Charlotte. To express condolences to the family, please sign the online guest book.
