Frank Newton Willet

June 24, 1918 — May 9, 2011

Frank Newton Willet, Sr., 92, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2011. He was the son of George and Olive Willet, born June 24, 1918 in Grayling, MI. Frank was a member of Murdock Baptist Church in Port Charlotte. He was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force as a TSgt.; he received a bronze star among many other medals. He served for over 22 years and traveled extensively during his military career, serving in WWII during the occupation of Japan. Franks interests included carpentry, drafting and flying. He often shared that he circled the world twice, crossed the equator four times and lived in forty-nine of the fifty states. Frank's love of the Lord gave him great comfort and he shared his testimony with whomever would listen. Frank will be missed by his children, Jeanne (Dennis) Portello of Oklahoma, Frank (Deidre) Willet of Mississippi, and Kelly (Fred) Brandon of Port Charlotte where he resided; grandchildren, Susan Whitecotton, Dennis (Erin) Portello, Joseph Portello, Tina (Todd) Craig, Heather Podnar, Brett Podnar, Patty Tooker, Brad (Jessica) Brandon, Jamie (Christopher) Knight; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by ex-wife Patricia Willet and their sons, James Michael and Patrick Joseph. A celebration of Frank's life will be held with family and friends in FL at a later date. A military burial will be held in Sercy, AK, next to his wife, Ruth Willet. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Frank's name to Murdock Baptist Church, 18375 Cochran Blvd, Port Charlotte, FL 33948.
