Francis "Frank" Gerard Gwynn, of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly of San Diego, CA passed away peaceful after a long struggle with ALS on Friday, August 9, 2013 surround by family. He was the oldest of five siblings born August 15, 1930 in Boston, MA to Francis and Eleanor Gwynn. Frank served in the US Marines until 1950 and continuing with the reserves until 1959. He attended the California Highway Patrol Academy, starting his career in the Los Angeles area accepting a position with the Oakland Police Department as an officer, for seven years and finally worked as a fraud investigator for State Farm Insurance, San Francisco Bay Area until he retired in 1995. Frank was an avid boater and enjoyed boating in the San Francisco Bay, San Diego area and Punta Gorda waterways with his wife. He was a member of Punta Gordo Boat Club and enjoyed social activities with all their friends. Frank's hobbies were, boating, fishing, reading and traveling. Frank will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years, Chris; son, Bill (Cindi) Gwynn of Washougal, Washington; daughter, Patrice (Dave) Fortuna of Galt, California; step-daughter, Cherie Farschon of Sacramento, California; step-son, Ron (Martha) Saunders of San Diego, California; sister, Geraldine Basmajian of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Franco Fortuna, Mathew Fortuna, Jenna Fortuna, Jace Gwynn, Gage Gwynn, Kaitlyn Maddams, Kelsey Maddams, Breanna Emerson and Blake Emerson. He was preceded in death on the same day by his brother, William Gwynn. A memorial service will be held 11a.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Larry Taylor Funeral Services. A celebration of Life will follow at Punta Gorda Boat Club.
