Francis Nicholas, 86, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Born in Solvay, New York to William Nicholas and Sophia Samuels. Frank entered the US Navy in 1943; he served on the Carriers, USS Hornet and the USS Bon Homme Richard and retired after 20 years of service. Unable to stay retired Frank joined the U.S. Capital Police 15 years later at the rank of Lieutenant he retires again. Frank had called the Washington DC area home for over 30 years until an ice storm in the 90's drove him and his wife Morina south. Frank loved horse races and a good black jack game and that love led to several trips to Biloxi, MS., he was also an avid bowler with several awards and trophies, he never did make his 300 game, but he did bowl a 299 game twice. Frank was a great husband, father and friend. He was loved by everyone he came in contact with, he was the type of person that everyone liked and he would do anything to help. Frank was predeceased by his parents, William and Sophia, brother, Robert Nicholas, sister, Audrey Emmy, wife, Morina Nicholas and son, Mark Francis Nicholas. Frank is survived by sisters, Virginia Spinelli of Auburn, NY and Sister Benita of Syracuse, NY; son, Jerry (Sharon) Nicholas; grandsons, John (Renee) Polis of Port Charlotte, FL, Robert (Karen) Polis of Waldorf, MD; granddaughter, Laurie (Mike) Anderson of North Port, FL; 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters. Per his request there will be no services; he had dedicated his body to medical research. Thank you to Tidewell Hospice for your assistance.
