Evelyn B. Atkinson

Evelyn B. Atkinson, 93, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away Monday, November 18, 2013. She was born April 22, 1920 in Lafayette, IN to William and Esther (Allen) Burns. She lived in the Chalmers, IN area until 1925 when she moved to St. Cloud, FL with her parents; she returned to the family farm east of Chalmers in 1929. After graduating from Chalmers High School, she graduated from International Business College in Ft. Wayne, IN in 1939. She worked in the admissions office at Purdue Univ., and for Lafayette Loan later, she worked for 8 years at the Farmers National Bank in Remington, IN. She married Arnold Atkinson on May 1, 1940 and they lived on the family farm in Gilboa Twp. She and Arnold moved to Bradenton, FL in 1985, then to Port Charlotte in 2010. Evelyn will be greatly missed by her children, Joy and Dennis (Wendy); daughter in law, Bonnie; grandchildren, Angela, Kristen, Lori, Cindy, Cory, Cassie, Luke and Eric; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jordan, Lauren, Caitlin, Ryan, Lacie, Morgan, Carter, Lillie, Lane, Mason, Parker and Aiden. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Arnold, and son, Jim. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2pm, on January 4, 2014 at Stitz Funeral Home in Remington, IN with a service to follow at 2pm. A gathering will follow immediately at Christian Church.
