Elizabeth Daniel

Elizabeth Daniel was born November 23, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pa, and passed away peacefully on November 24, 2021, at Hospice House of Port Charlotte, FL., thus making her 95th birthday. A resident of Punta Gorda, FL since 2015 and prior to that a resident of North Port, FL since 2001. Elizabeth was a missionary for the Episcopal Church and worked in Brazil from 1958 to 19991 and again from 1998 to 2001.

Her contributions to the Episcopal Church of Brazil were in the areas of Christian Education and Theological Education and she was Dean of the National Theological Seminary of Brazil. She was the author of several books on Christian Education which included Bible Studies for all ages. Her passion was working with women and children in the poorer areas of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, and Porto Algre. Her inexhaustible dedication to strive for the equality of all people, through education, job opportunities, and human rights, as well as combat the inequalities of racism and sexism. She enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, mountains, oceans, travel, and cruising. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emily, father, Jack, and her brother Paul. Surviving family members are Niece Emily Daniel of Pregon, Nephew’s Christ Daniel of Kentucky, Tim Daniel of New Mexico, Tony Daniel of West Virginia, and colleagues and friends of Patricia Powers. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given in honor of Elizabeth Daniel at Port Charlotte Hospice House or the Mission work in the Diocese of Brasilia, Brazil.
