Edward Gerald "Ed" Weiss, 79, of Punta Gorda, FL formerly of Gross Pointe Woods, Michigan passed away Friday, April 5, 2013. He was the son of Charles J. and Edna H. (nee Berkholz) Weiss, born March 14, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. Ed graduated from Denby High School and American Institute of Banking in Detroit, MI. He worked in banking his entire career with his last position as a Division Vice President and Director of Corporate Risk Management with First of America Bank Corporation before retiring on March 31, 1996 . In the late 1980's Ed was awarded the Risk Management of the Year for Financial Institutions by the Risk Management Society. He was a member and President of Risk & Insurance Management Detroit Chapter, member of Association of Banking Holding Companies, Michigan Bankers Association Chairman Insurance Committee, American Bankers Association, Washington, DC. He helped form Bermuda Insurance Company LTD captive insurance company for financial institutions and was President in 1989, Chairman 1991- 1993. Ed was an instructor for the American Institute of Banking and Junior Achievement. He was Secretary of East Detroit Lions Club. Ed was a member and former President of the Metropolitan Detroit Ski Council, Commodore of Gross Pointe Woods Boat Club and member of Burnt Store Isles Boat Club and BSI Fishing Club. He enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, automobiles and was of the Lutheran Faith. Ed will be greatly missed by his wife of 40 years, Mary J.; daughter, Cherie L. (Patrick) Howard; grandchildren, Robert C. Howard and Jessica L. Howard; sister-in-law, Victoria Weiss; numerous nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles A. Weiss; sister, Genevieve Weiss. No service will be held per Edward's wishes. Scattering of cremated remains will be at sea.
