Edmundo Pantejo

On Sunday, November 13, 2005, the Rev. Dr. Edmundo Apolo Pantejo died in Port Charlotte, Florida at the age of 72 years. Dr. Pantejo, Ed to his family and friends, graduated Bachelor of Theology cum laude at Silliman University in 1957. He obtained his Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Sacred Theology and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Andover Newton Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. He also earned a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies toward his Ph. D. at Boston University. After graduation from Silliman, he served as senior pastor of the Surigao United Church before going abroad for studies. After serving several years as pastor of Davao City UCC from 1961 to 1965, he taught Clinical Pastoral Counseling at the SU Divinity School before migrating with his family to the United States. Dr. Pantejo served for 25 years as counselor at the United States Veterans Administration, from which he retired as Division Chief for Rhode Island and New York. After retirement, Ed served as interim pastor for a couple of churches in Rhode Island. In 1999, he was called to be pastor of Silliman University Church where he served until 2001, the year of Silliman’s centennial and the reason he is fondly called by friends and admirers, “The Centennial Pastor.” At the Founders Day celebrations in August 2004, he was honored as one of the Outstanding Sillimanian Awardees in the field of counseling ministry. Dr. Pantejo will be greatly missed by his wife of 46 years, the former Ophelia Recla; his children, Barbara Jean and Carl; grandchildren, Carl, Jr. And Anya; sisters, Suralta Dollano and Grace Managbanag; and brothers, Leo and Survic. A brother predeceased him. There are no calling hours, but a service to celebrate Dr. Pantejo’s life will be Saturday, November 19 at 4:00 p.m. at North Port Community Church, UCC, 3450 South Biscayne Drive, North Port. Pastors Jane Potter and Frederico Agnir will officiate. For directions to the church and service-related information, please call the church at 941-426-5580. In lieu of flowers, you may donate towards the Dr. Edmundo Pantejo Memorial Fund, c/o Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Center, 1700 Tamiami Trail F-1, Port Charlotte, FL 33948, the proceeds of which will go toward setting up a charity ward at the SU Medical Center. Please make checks payable to Ophelia Pantejo. To express condolences to the family, please sign the guest book. Arrangements are by the Cremation Center of Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services, Port Charlotte.
