Douglas R. Withee

Douglas R. Withee, 69, of Punta Gorda passed away May 21, 2012. He was the son of George and Velma (Richardson) Withee, born November 9, 1942 in Marshall, MI. Doug graduate from Marshall (MI) High School in 1960, and earned his Bachelors of Art degree from Michigan State University in 1966. He received his Juris Doctor from Cooley Law School in 1980 and began a fulfilling career. He was sworn in by Chief Justice Mary Coleman of the State of Michigan Supreme Court; he served as a Court Referee for the Calhoun County MI Juvenile Division Probate Court before opening a private practice. After moving to Florida, he practiced as a Public Defender in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit, and as an Assistant Public Defender in the Capital Division for the Seventh Judicial Circuit. Doug maintained membership in both the Michigan and Florida Bar Assns. Doug was also an avid golfer, boater, and hunter. Doug will be greatly missed by his wife, Catherine Ann Withee; brother, Victor (Nila) Withee; brother-in-law, Joseph (Candy) Edgerton, and many nieces and nephews. No services are planned.
