Douglas V. Wilder, 52, passed away April 29, 2013 in Punta Gorda. He was the son of Richard and Shirley J. (Mitchell) Wilder, born May 7, 1960 at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA. He moved to this area in 1968. Born with muscular dystrophy, he walked with braces until the 8th grade. Though confined to a wheelchair after that, he remained self-sufficient and never lost his smile. Doug enjoyed playing drums, and followed Kevin Lyman's Warped Tour. He had the opportunity to carry the Olympic Torch in 2002 on its way to the Salt Lake City games. Doug will be greatly missed by his daughters, Brandi Wilder of Wesley Chapel, FL and Staci Wilder of Punta Gorda; granddaughter, Alannah Wilder, whom he cherished; father, Richard Wilder; sister, Debbie White; and ex-wife, Darla. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley, and sisters, Kathryn and Julie. The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 am Monday, May 6, 2013 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services with the service in celebration of Doug's life beginning at 11:00.
