Dorothy W. Fulford

Dorothy W. "Dottie" Fulford, 83, of Port Charlotte passed away January 11, 2011. She was born December 28, 1927 in Dallas, TX. Dottie met Darwin "Dee" Fulford while visiting Biloxi, MS; they married in May of 1962. Dottie and Dee realized their greatest desire when they adopted 4-week-old Todd in 1970. As the wife of an Air Force Master Sargent, Dottie had the opportunity to travel and live in many places around the world, but moved to this area from Birmingham, AL ten years ago. Dottie loved hand crafts of all kinds; she enjoyed crocheting and quilting, collecting shells and making gifts for others. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and she loved making ornaments for the tree. An accomplished seamstress, she made and modeled her own clothing on a television show while living in Greensboro, NC. Another love was being by the water. She and Dee rehabilitated an old lake house on Smith Lake in AL and enjoyed it for many years; while living in Sarasota, FL, they enjoyed camping on Siesta Key during the summer. Dottie was well known as a wonderful homemaker and hostess. Her home was always open to Todd's friends, and she was Mom to everyone including being named Honorary Mom by Todd's Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. There was a friendly rivalry in the home with Dottie being a big Auburn fan and Dee loving Alabama. Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and friend and will be greatly missed by her husband of 48 years, Darwin "Dee" Fulford; and son, Todd Fulford of Brooklyn, NY. The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2:30 pm Friday, January 14, 2011 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services with the service in celebration of Dorothy's life following at 2:30 pm.
