Doris Oakley, 95, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Dec. 28, 2017 at Tidewell Hospice Englewood House. She was born Aug.9, 1922; the only child of Edward and Lena Kochman in Brooklyn New York. Doris married Richard Oakley on Nov. 22, 1942 at Howard Beach, NY and they moved to Massapequa, NY in 1956. In 1971 Doris and Richard moved from Massapequa, NY to Port Richey, FL together with their daughter Janet Lynn. In 2002 Doris and Richard moved to Punta Gorda to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lynne Oakley. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Punta Gorda and a member of the "Dixie" Chicks." She enjoyed outings with the girls and visiting local restaurants. Doris will be greatly missed by her sons, Richard (Lynne) Oakley of Punta Gorda and Ronald Oakley of Tamarac, FL; granddaughters, Barbara (Mark) Porcaro and Kelley (Paul) Kallwitz; three great-granddaughters; cousin, Gladys Farishian of Amityville, NY; dear friends, Sharon, Jim, Justin and Jake Avery of Naples, FL, Tony and Lorraine Geiser of Punta Gorda; and loving caregiver, Lou Ann Vaughn. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard "Bud" Oakley; daughter, Janet Lynn Oakley; daughter-in-law, Linda Quinn Oakley and sweet grand-dogs Salty and Skipper. Services are private. Doris will be interred with her husband at Sarasota National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, Inc., 12050 N. Access Road, Port Charlotte, FL 33981. The family sincerely thanks all the Tidewell family for their kindness to Doris during her final days. They truly are the angels who walk among us.
