Donald R. Sorensen

Donald R. Sorensen, 82, of Punta Gorda passed away May 13, 2017. He was the son of Kaj and Alice Sorensen, born June 26, 1934 in Green Bay, WI. Donald was an electrical engineer for Detroit Edison before retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Detroit Engineering Society. He served in the US Army Reserves achieving the rank of Captain. Donald and his wife, Gay, loved to travel. While he was still working, they made it a point to get away as often as they could. In 1998, Donald received a liver transplant and a new lease on life. He and Gay began travelling extensively, circling the world twice and visiting 128 countries. Even after moving to Punta Gorda from Mount Clemens, MI in 1992, they would seek warmer weather in the winter by visiting the Caribbean Islands. Gay is a master gardener, and Donald enjoyed working alongside her trimming and maintaining the garden. He was an amateur radio operator, and a member of the Apple Computer Club. Donald was also a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte. Donald will be greatly missed by his wife of 58 years, Gay; son, Eric (Mylinda) Sorensen; and nieces, Debbie Lewis and Julie Schweinsberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Robert.
