Denny Denson

December 16, 1921 — October 10, 2006

Ernest Leroy “Denny” Denson was born December 16, 1921 in Fulton, Mississippi, the son of Elbert and Martha (Milam) Denson. He was raised on a farm in Hopewell, Florida, and served in the Navy on the USS Miami in the Pacific during WWII. He was an electronic tech for Sears Roebuck for 34 ½ years. He came to the Port Charlotte area from Charlotte, North Carolina in 1978 and was a painting contractor for many years here, and also had a lawn service. In addition to his love of cutting grass, he enjoyed spending time fishing and boating on the Peace River with his wife, Lib, and hunting. Denny was a member of the American Legion, and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, serving as an usher and greeting everyone with a big smile and warm handshake. Denny passed away October 10, 2006 at the age of 84 and will be greatly missed by his wife of 27 years, Elizabeth “Lib” Denson; daughters, Ann (Randy) Ahrens of Punta Gorda. Florida; sons, Craig (Tony) Cooper of Cary, North Carolina, Wayne Cooper of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tim (Cathy) Helms of Surfside Beach, South Carolina; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and many friends. The family requests memorial donations be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952, or to First Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, 20035 Quesada Avenue, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
