Delbert Ross Akey

Delbert Ross Akey, 72, of Punta Gorda formerly of Massillon, Ohio passed away May 30, 2011 at Charlotte Harbor Healthcare. He was born August 21, 1938 in Massillon, OH and raised by his father, Delbert and step-mom, Lola.. Delbert served the US Army and worked for Republic Steel in Massillon for years until he learned to drive semi trucks and hauls steel for years. He was a member of the Eagles. Delbert played softball and was a pit crew mechanic on late model race cars until he moved to Florida. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed going to local tracks in Florida and OH and watched races on TV every weekend. Delbert will be greatly missed by his wife, of 44 years, Rose; children, Mike (Barbara); Vickie; Dennis (Kathy); Sue and Sissy (Allen); brother, David (Barbara), Lynn (Kathy) and Jeff (Pat); sister, Linda' step-sister, Carole (David); several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
