Daphne J. Johnson

May 29, 1930 — August 1, 2021

Daphne was born in Kingston, Jamaica on May 29, 1930. She was the only child of Lena Griffiths and Leslie Rodman. She attended Calabar Primary School and St. Martin High School. She lived in East Kingston on Barry Street. As a youth she loved math. She also dreamt of being a nurse since the age of 8.

She married Claude Johnson on June 27, 1951. The union produced 5 children: Maurice of North Miami; Sonia of Atlanta; Janet Angela of Ft. Lauderdale; Carl of Port Charlotte and Claude of North Carolina. She migrated in 1965 and her family joined her shortly thereafter.

In New York, she entered the Nursing field as a nursing assistant. While working there she seized the opportunity to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a Registered Nurse (R.N.). She attended Bronx Community College, where after years of grueling studies she achieved her goal. She graduated on June 16, 1978. She relocated to Ft. Lauderdale and spent most of her Nursing career with North Ridge Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale. She retired from North Ridge in 1990. She continued her nursing career part-time at Solaris Health Care in Charlotte Harbor.

She was a member of Bronx Baptist Church, Bronx, New York, and transferred her membership to First Baptist Church when she and her husband Claude relocated to Pt. Charlotte in 1992.

She is survived by her 5 children Maurice (Merlyne) Sonia, Janet Angela, Carl (Judith), and Claude(Beverly), and honorary son Maurice Grange. Her grandchildren Marcel, Duane, Janice, Gail, Robert, Geoffrey, Karen, Marcus and Adeyianka were a constant source of pride and inspiration. Her great-grandchildren, Sydney, Elizabeth, Madeline, Laila, Zora, Sean, Abigail, Valerio, Isabelle, Geoffrey II, Emma, and Avery completed her family.

She will be sorely missed by family, numerous friends and family from Kingston, Jamaica; extended family members in Canada and U.S.A.; other friends and colleagues.
