John Daniel "Dan" Mills, 92, of Port Charlotte, FL, died peacefully Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte. He was born December 12, 1920, in Brownstown, IN to Rev. Glenn O. Mills and Beulah Adams Mills. Dan was a 1939 graduate of Edinburg High School and prepared for his career as an electrical contractor at Coyne College in Chicago, IL. He served in the US Navy during WW II and survived Iwo Jima. In 1941 he married his high school sweetheart, Rosemary "Rosie" Royse Mills. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary before her death last year. Dan and Rosie moved to Punta Gorda, FL in 1986, where they have been active members of Burnt Store Presbyterian Church. They resided and raised two daughters in the Indianapolis, IN area and were charter members of Southport Christian Church. Before retiring in 1985, Dan was employed by Barth Electric, Co. Inc. for over 30 years. Dan was a kind and gentle man, a loving husband and father. Two days before his death he commented, "I don't think there ever has been a man who lived a happier life." He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Mills of Hendersonville, NC and Judy Mills Gower of Punta Gorda, FL and Hendersonville, NC; many nephews and nieces; close family friends, Deirdre Hulihan and Susan Doty Pardue. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two brothers, Glenn O. "Bud" Mills, Jr. and Eugene A. "Gene" Mills. The family would like to especially thank Tim Gower for his loving presence during Dan's final days. A memorial service will be held at 11a.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Burnt Store Presbyterian Church, Punta Gorda, FL.
