Curtis L. Worley

June 7, 1930 — December 3, 2011

Curtis Lionel Worley, 81, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Saturday, December 3, 2011, after a short illness. Curtis was born June 7, 1930, in Ravenscroft, Tennessee, to the late Alfred and Lena Cooley Worley. His family moved to the Coal River area of Raleigh County, West Virginia, in the 1930's. He and his wife, Louise Bone, who were married for 59 years, made their home in Bloomington, Indiana, until the early 1990's when they retired to Florida. Curtis was a friend to all who knew him. When someone needed help, he pitched in, working untold hours just for the joy of helping someone. People came to rely on him because he was a trusted person. He had so many innate skills, he could do almost anything. During the summers when many people in Florida came north, there was hardly a day that someone did not call him for help or advice. He had so much to give, and he gave willingly and joyously. He was truly a "Good Samaritan." Curtis was a wonderful husband and father and a good brother to his brothers and his sister. He did everything possible to help his mother after his father passed away when Curtis was a young boy. Curtis was a friend to everyone. Wherever he lived, he was well-respected and a leader in the community, the church, at work and with Boy Scouts. He loved people, especially young children and the elderly. He was always eager to make a new friend. He was much like Will Rogers, who once said, "I never met a man I didn't like." He was the devoted husband of Louise Bone Worley and loving father of Lloyd Curtis (Diane) Worley, of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Helen Sue (Harold) Rose, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; brother, Larry (Marian) Worley, of Columbus, Indiana; cousins, Doris Gamble, Ethel Perrine, and Betty Ruth Guy, all of Sparta, Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Worley, William Worley, and James Worley. Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed by a memorial contribution to a hospice of the donor's choice.
