Curtis Glatfelter, 93, passed away on September 16, 2024, in Port Charlotte, FL.
"Curt" was born on September 7, 1931, in Millers Station, MD, to Vernon Glatfelter and Grace Wilhelm. He had one brother, Melvin, who was 4 years younger.
Curt graduated from Glen Rock High School in 1949, and entered the United States Air Force in 1951 where he served for 4 years. While in the USAF overseas, he met a local girl in Cologne, Germany, with whom he fell in love, brought back to the states and married in 1954. Her name was Anneliese "Lisa" Glatfelter.
Curt and Lisa decided they wanted to live in Australia and started heading there from Pennsylvania. They made it as far as Los Angeles where they ended up making a home. Curt started working for the FAA as an air traffic controller, and Lisa opened her own knitting shop. In 1958, their first son, Glenn, was born. In 1962, their second son, Brenton, was born.
Curt retired from the FAA in 1976 and went on to earn a Business Degree from LaVerne University in 1978. At the same time, Curt had a couple of small businesses. He had a one-man handyman business, and he also owned a business that restored antique automobiles. In 1980, Curt and Lisa purchased a local convenience store. After 6 years of all that, they decided it was time to relax, they sold all their real assets and moved to Deerfield Beach, Florida, in 1987. They remained there until 1997 when they decided to move to west coast of Florida and built their final home in Punta Gorda.
Curt and Lisa traveled a lot in their marriage, to many countries in Europe and Asia, but never made it to Australia.
Lisa passed away in 2004.
Curt was best known for his sense of humor and generous personality. He was loved and trusted by everyone that knew him and he was a dependable and devoted husband, father and friend. He loved to play weekly poker with friends for "pennies". He really did love to travel and for many of his later years he would spend the entire summer in Germany.
